Be careful where you ride, and take care where you fall. Mountain bicycle rider Manuel Altamirano just recently learned this the tough method, after crashing into a coiled rattlesnake on a path near San Diego, California. The good news is, neither snake nor human was injured.
According to NBC7 San Diego, Altamirano was riding at the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Maintain when he saw a rattlesnake coiled up in strike position on the path. He told the local news station that he tried to stop as soon as he saw it, however his bike skid and struck the snake.
Meanwhile, Altamirano bailed off the back of the bike. He says he’s had rattlesnakes strike at him from that curled-up position before, so he wasn’t taking any chances.
After recognizing neither he nor the snake was harmed, Altamirano began recording the aftermath of the crash. It appears ridiculous that the snake didn’t even move away as a mtb came skidding toward it.
