For lots of visitors to Humboldt County, seeing the redwoods consists of sleeping under them. There is something so comforting about living– if just for a few days– in the protective accept of these 1,000-year-old giants. Lots of Californians share fond youth memories of family camping journeys to the redwoods– of waking to the smell of wood smoke and frying bacon, with shafts of morning sunlight spotlighting the forest floor. Our redwood parks offer camping tent outdoor camping websites, RV sites, group and bike camping areas. Both Redwood National Park and Humboldt Redwoods State Park have backcountry camping (backpacking) in addition to drive-in outdoor camping.
REDWOODS: Camp among world’s highest trees – Humboldt Redwoods State Park with Eel river gain access to and Meadow Creek Redwoods State Park, a part of the Redwood National & State Park, where the Roosevelt elk roam, Richardson Grove, Van Duzen County Park & Grizzly Creek SP also offer redwoods & river gain access to.
RIVER: Van Duzen County Park, Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Richardson Grove, Grizzly Creek Redwood State Park on the Eel River or Camp Kimtu on the Trinity River.
BEACH: Gold Bluffs Beach, Clam Beach, Big Lagoon and Sue-Meg State Park have simple access to the ocean, treking and beach combing.
