Last weekend, a boater in Georgia’s Okefenokee National Wildlife Haven stumbled upon a swarm of alligators, however he wasn’t deterred. Marty Welch taped the moment his boat faced a huge herd of gators en route to Billy’s Lake. Instead of reversing, Welch decided to slowly pass through.
In the video, Welch and his companion reveal their shock after seeing just how many gators are in the channel ahead of them. Welch appears confident that the boat can make it through and that the alligators won’t injure them. His buddy doesn’t seem as positive.
Okefenokee National Wildlife Haven shared the video to its Facebook page and described why there were many alligators in one place.
“This habits is not a routine occurrence but it’s totally typical in times of low water levels when their food sources are more concentrated,” the sanctuary stated in the video’s caption. “If you ever come across a large number of alligators like this, the very best thing to do is give them plenty of space to get away.”
As Welch’s boat slowly moves through the crowded location, the alligators start to submerge and get out of the method. There’s a bunch of splashing and some bumps, too.
Right before the video cuts off, Welch exclaims: “May wish to take a seat!”
