(Pausing for a minute of silence while that sinks in.) And while there are numerous funny remarks worth reading on the post exposing the horizontal canoe, the leading comment/question is simply why.
Jen Mignard has actually been an administrator of the Facebook group Yellowstone National Park: Invasion of The Idiots ™! because 2016, and she sees some stuff. But when she encountered a Subaru with a Wisconsin plate and a canoe strapped to the top in an unconventional way, she just needed to share it. (Although it has nothing to do with Yellowstone.)
Mignard’s caption just reads: “Lewis & Clark they are not.”
The Internet’s Response Is the Best Part
The post has garnered 57,000 responses, 1,600 comments, and 19,000 shares given that Mignard shared it last week.
Remarks primarily express confusion, issue, and amusement. They vary from the ironical (“That need to work simply fine”) to the dejected (“This makes my head hurt”).
One sweet lady attempted to come to these folks’ defense. She wrote: “If you look close you will see that if they did it the right way it would cover the front of their windshield and they would not have the ability to see out. Their option was not excellent however at least they can see where they are going!”
Sadly for this woman, the mob then turned on her, letting her understand all about canoe seats. One reply laid it out, stating: “Canoe seats a) fold b) are removable […] there are no canoes ever that can’t be transferred in the generally accepted fashion.”
While we ‘d enjoy to provide this Subaru owner the advantage of the doubt, adjusting the seat would have been the much better method forward. If the seat truly doesn’t budge, we concur with Sue H.
