Recently, a 7.4-magnitude earthquake left Taiwan’s Hualien County shaken, actually and figuratively. A minimum of 13 individuals died in the quake, which also injured more than 1,000 individuals. A labrador retriever called Roger is providing some positive energy amid the catastrophe.
Roger stopped working to become a cops drug-sniffing dog because the now-eight-year-old pup is “extremely friendly and playful”. However, don’t worry, he seems to have found his function in life. According to CNN, he’s been helping first responders rescue quake survivors and discover victims’ bodies to return to their mourning households.
The exact same attributes that made Roger a poor fit as a narcotic-sniffing pet dog made him a good fit as a rescue canine, said Chen Chih-san, captain of the rescue dog system of the Kaohsiung Fire Department, in an interview with CNN.
Chih-san said Roger transferred to rescue training school when he was a one-year-old young puppy, after being born into a training center for drug-sniffing pets. He’s been doing great since he made the switch, and the same vitality that got him tossed out of drug-sniffing school has made him a cherished rescue pet dog in Taiwan.
Though Roger is just among numerous dogs participating in the quake healing effort, this rescue labrador’s story of success after initial failure is especially motivating and charming.
Roger shows us that you don’t have to follow a prescribed course in life. If you’re too friendly to be a drug-sniffing dog, be a rescue pet dog rather.
