In 2020, Vladimir Burkanov, a marine-mammal biologist, shared a rare and uncommon discover: an albino fur seal pup on Tyuleny Island, a small and unoccupied Russian island in the Sea of Okhotsk. The photos of the adorably sad-looking pup have started recirculating, and people are flooding Burkanov’s original post with remarks.
In the 2020 post, Burkanov composes: “‘Unsightly duck’– albino fur seal is uncommon occasion. They more looks [sic] red than white. This is a clear albino without any coloring even in eyes.” Commenters seem incredibly concerned that the seal nest would turn down the baby, or that it would not endure in the wild. Because the post is 4 years of ages, though, what the people actually want is an update.
So far, there is no upgrade. Therefore, the most anyone can do is enjoy the unusual video footage and hope this little guy or gal made it to adulthood.

Though numerous worried commenters keep in mind that the albino child looks “unfortunate,” this is a traditional case of anthropomorphism. The young puppy has no factor to know that it’s various or at threat due to its light coloration.
It is possible, however, based on a 2nd post from Burkanov about another albino fur seal that his associate photographed in 2017, that albino seals have problem seeing. For that reason, this pup may look “sad” due to the fact that it’s squinting or struggling to see the professional photographer.
