National forest cover countless acres of land and see countless visitors each year. Running one is like running a town. It takes thousands of staff members to keep everything going smoothly. However, another important part of maintaining park operations is volunteers. Here’s how you can offer at a national park this year.
The National forest Service states about 300,000 people volunteer each year in parks. The NPS states these volunteers “work side-by-side with our National forest Service employees in parks and programs throughout the nation to help protect our country’s most valuable natural, historic, leisure, and cultural treasures. Volunteers are an essential part of the NPS and assist us to satisfy our objective.”
These volunteer chances include camping site hosts to safeguarding elk and visitors in the Smoky Mountains.
To kick things off, Cuyahoga Valley National forest is hosting a volunteer open home on Sunday, February 18, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Pleased Days Lodge.

National Forest Volunteer Opportunities

- Star: Assist in presenting programs on Cuyahoga Valley’s history. Presence is needed at wedding rehearsals and the productions.
- Person Science: Work with park personnel to keep track of and survey various native plant and animal species throughout CVNP.
- Neighborhood Engagement: Work with park staff in neighborhoods surrounding CVNP, with a concentrate on Cleveland and Akron communities. Duties consist of staffing cubicles and assisting with the presentation of programs that highlight the resources of CVNP.
- Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad: Belong of the renowned occasions on the railroad. Opportunities exist for train crew: Trainmen, Concessionaires, Servers; Platform Attendants and Visitor Ambassadors, Education Program Assistants, Maintenance and Mechanical Assistance.
- Biking School: Assist in a cycling experience for youth from the Cleveland and Akron areas. Assist with fitting bikes and helmets to youth, accompanying youth on a bike ride along the Ohio & Erie Towpath Trail, and making sure safety.
- Environmental Education Center: Seeking volunteers thinking about youth environmental education programming. Help with junior ranger events and outdoor education programs.
- First Ladies National Historic Site: Welcome and engage with visitors of the site. Assist with historical interpretation.
- Get Up, Go out, and Go: Work with park personnel to supply leisure chances in the park for community groups. Activities consist of hiking, field games, cycling, fishing, and more.
- Environment Restoration: Help with invasive plant management at park picked sites. Work consists of seed collection of native plants under guidance, planting locals, and working in the park greenhouse.
