Two lucky early birds managed to record a look of snow at sunrise on Sunday morning (January 7th). The minute was short lived and the snow didn’t stick around for long.
The couple were visiting from New York and shared some strangely stunning images on Reddit. Their photos show the renowned trees with a light dusting of white grainy snow. A magical sight in the wilderness of southern California.
” Just here for one morning (< 24 hour trip) and we were welcomed by a snowy park today! We saw possibly 2 other cars and trucks in the park in between 7- 8am, it was unbelievable having this wintry wonderland to ourselves," they shared in the post. Joshua Tree National Forest is a place where 2 deserts meet: the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert. Two distinct ecosystems, the park is home to an interesting array of diverse plant life, including the renowned spiky Joshua Trees. It is likewise popular for its dark skies and unbelievable geology. According to the Joshua Tree National Park, snow can sometimes be seen at greater elevations, but generally only once or twice a year. In the winter, the park experiences cooler days, around 60 ° F( 15 ° C), and freezing nights. The couple were delighted to be the first to see the snow, they shared “It began around 4000 ft or so, and about 1– 2 cm on the ground at Keys View (5,185 feet)!”.
The Joshua Tree National forest shared a post from February 2019, the last time the park experienced a considerable snowfall.
