For those who survive on the border of human society and untamed wilderness, nature tends to take place right on the doorstep and in living color. A recent video published to X from Livermore, Colorado resident Shari Fortson shows a mountain lion dragging its prey right through her backyard.
Fortson resides in Glacier View Meadows near the Arapaho/Roosevelt National Forest along the Front Variety Of the Colorado Rockies. Much of Colorado is home to mountain lions, consisting of the Front Range, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).
In the video, a mountain lion drags its victim (a deer) rather awkwardly in between its legs throughout an open space. At one point it stops, looks back at the human recording and stares for an excellent 15 seconds. Then, it picks up its meal and advances into the brush.
Enjoy it here:
The CPW NE Area retweeted Fortson’s video and shares additional context. The company states the mountain lion is bringing its catch to a “food cache”– a hideout it’ll return to over the next several days to continue delighting in its victim.
CPW NE Region further calls the video “a rare appearance” and suggests it’s not a typical sight to see.
This is an unusual look at a mountain lion on its way to cache (or shop) its food. The lion will return to their cache over the next couple of days to continue eating. https://t.co/HLwBF0Phx3!.?.!— CPW NE Region(@CPW_NE)May
