Mountain Lion or Husky Home Cat? We Have the Response.

We enjoy an excellent mountain lion sighting when no people or animals get injured. However often, that “mountain lion” identified on a trail web cam or doorbell camera is actually something else, like a bobcat– or, in this case, a particularly husky house cat.

That’s right, the South San Francisco Police Department has actually validated that a recent mountain lion sighting via a Ring doorbell video camera in south San Francisco was not a cougar however a house feline– a BIG house feline.

On Facebook, the South San Francisco PD wrote this update to its original post dated March 26:

“UPDATE. We were able to validate the Big Cat was not a mountain lion […] We are happy to report there is no possible risk for the area. That’s a BIG feline!”The initial post described how a San Francisco homeowner spotted a large, tannish cat walking along a fence on a Ring security cam. The resident believed the cat was too big to be a house cat and reported a mountain lion sighting.

“Officers performed a location check, but were unable to locate this furry guy and there were no additional sightings,” the South San Francisco PD wrote.

The cops department didn’t lay out how they identified the animal, however they seem confident that this is undoubtedly a husky house feline and not a mountain lion.

We enjoy a great mountain lion sighting. But sometimes, that “mountain lion” is truly something else. Is this one a cougar or a house feline?
