Extremely Poisonous Snake on the Loose in Oxford (Might Be a Scam)

Could this be some not-so-hisssterical joke? Somebody hung up a lost-pet poster in the U.K. city of Oxford, claiming his/her “extremely venomous” snake is missing out on. The thought of such a harmful animal roaming easily around town has caused concern. Some individuals have even claimed to have seen the animal. Problem is, the phone number on the poster doesn’t work, so some individuals are saying the missing poisonous snake is in fact a scam.

Oxford Mail reports observers discovered the poster connected to a lamppost near Barefoot Cafe in Walton Street on Friday recently. The poster reads:

“ATTENTION!

MISSING OUT ON SNAKE

EXTREMELY VENOMOUS, DO NOT TECHNIQUE!

PLEASE CONTACT 01865 236780.

DO NOT CALL THE POLICE OR THEY WILL TAKE HER AWAY FROM ME”

The poster also consists of an image of a snake that seems a cobra. There are around 30 extant types of real cobras (members of the Naja genus) worldwide, none belonging to Europe, and they’re all poisonous.

Oxford Mail states somebody reported seeing this snake on a regional Facebook group. However, others (including Oxford Mail) say they have actually tried calling the number and found it disconnected.

A city authorities has actually even stepped forward saying he thinks it’s a hoax based on the detached number. But what if the person who made this poster decided it was a bad idea to share his/her number after the story went viral? The snake owner, if such a snake exists, did presume she or he is frightened of effects.

For the safety of people and animals in this area, we hope the person comes forward either to confirm the lost snake or admit it was a joke.

What do you believe? Exists a poisonous snake on the loose in Oxford, or is this all a scam?
