Gloria Louthan (@nobohobos) states a deer in her yard tried to alert her that a black bear was being available in a current TikTok video. “You see [the deer] stomping? She’s letting me understand that a black bear is coming,” Louthan states.
In the voiced-over video, Louthan tells as a female deer stomps throughout a backyard with her child in tow. The deer glances at the lady shooting as she stomps, then stops for a moment before bolting in the opposite instructions. Quickly later, a black bear shows up a bank into view and delicately strolls in the yard.
“She’s an excellent momma,” Louthan states of the deer. “She was warning me. It’s fantastic what wildlife can do.”

This is the second time this black bear appeared in the Louthans’ yard, according to the narrative. Fortunately, Gary Louthan had the ability to do a “tough scare” of the bear (Louthan doesn’t clarify what exactly that suggests), and the bear turns and runs off.
We really like the idea that a deer would deliberately caution Louthan about the threat. It’s possible the deer did so without understanding, and in reality, her behavior was that of an animal on high alert.
Whether the deer alerted Louthan on purpose or on accident, it’s a compelling video. We’re thankful no deer, bear, or human was damaged.
