Gray Whale Gives Baja Whale Watchers the Show of a Lifetime

Natalia Moreno Fimbres is an experience guide who takes wildlife lovers through the Baja Peninsula, where hundreds of gray whales move each year. Recently, a gray whale dealt with Fimbres and her guests to the program of a lifetime. The animal came near the boat, laid on its side, and opened its mouth, flaunting its baleen.

In the video, taken by a visitor however posted to Instagram by Fimbres, a giant gray whale has its rostrum up versus the boat. It’s so close that you can see the bristled keratin plates of the whale’s baleen. A male voice in the background says “wooooooow,” completely in awe.

Fimbres often posts videos of whales approaching boats and voluntarily interacting with guests, even permitting the human beings to touch them. However, she calls this interaction a “unusual minute.”

Gray whales can be approximately 46 feet long and weigh 35 loads. Like other baleen whales, this species does not have teeth. Rather, it utilizes baleen to filter food (mostly plankton) from the water.

A gray whale dealt with some whale watchers to the program of a life time when it came near the boat, laid on its side, and opened its mouth.
