Camano Island State Park Campground: A Family Adventure

We recently visited Camano Island State Park Campground in April and loved it! The park offers a unique blend of natural beauty and convenience. It is a perfect destination for those who love the outdoors but appreciate easy access to local restaurants, shops, and services. We were immediately impressed by how the park combines a sense of solitude with accessibility.

The location on the south end of the island is perfect for feeling as though you’re away from it all while at the same time feeling close to services like grocery and convenience stores should you forget something.

The park features a clean, inviting beach and a day-use area right on the shoreline, ideal for anyone wanting to relax by the water or enjoy light beach activities. The hiking trails around the park are well-maintained, offering peaceful walks with plenty of scenic views. They’re not too challenging, which makes them suitable for hikers of all skill levels.

The campground is exceptionally well-situated on a bluff overlooking the beach, which is ideal for overnight stays. This prime location offers campers spectacular water views and easy access to the beach below. The campground’s comprehensive facilities include modern showers and bathrooms, which add to the camping experience by providing home comforts in a natural setting.

Additionally, the park includes an amphitheater where visitors can enjoy occasional live events, adding a cultural touch to the natural surroundings. The park also offers cabins and a special group camping area for those seeking more privacy or camping with a group. These amenities make Camano Island State Park not just a place to visit but a place to experience and enjoy, whether for a day or a week.

Camano Island State Park is also right next door to Cama Beach State Park. We headed over on our bikes for Sunday Breakfast at Cama Beach Cafe, which is right inside the park. The cinnamon rolls are the size of your head and are AMAZING. They are currently only open three days a week (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), so check the website before you go!

The campground has 77 standard campsites and five cabins available for reservation. The Lower Loop takes reservations all year, while the Upper Loop is first come, first served through September 26th. The park also offers a winter water supply near the restrooms, so you can still enjoy the great outdoors during the colder months.

With stunning views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains, this park is a nature lover’s paradise.

Whether you’re looking for a weekend getaway or a more extended stay, Camano Island State Park Campground has something for everyone, and we highly recommend it!

If you’re planning a visit to Camano Island State Park Campground, there are a few things to keep in mind. The park offers a variety of amenities, including picnic areas, fire pits, and a playground. There are also opportunities for wildlife viewing, including bald eagles and gray whales (although we didn’t catch any whales this time, even though it’s a great time of the year to do so).

Camping and Lodging

Campground Details

The campground is divided into two loops: the Lower Loop and the Upper Loop. The Lower Loop is more private and secluded, while the Upper Loop offers more open spaces and views of the water. Both loops have picnic tables and fire rings with grills. During our stay only the Lower Loop was open as it was still the off-season technically.

Some of the sites are fairly uneven, so if you’re in a Campervan like we were or even a shorter RV, make sure to bring leveling blocks or you’ll likely be sleeping downhill!

As far as we could tell, tent platforms were at almost every site, and they seemed really nice and flat, so if you’re car camping with a tent, you should be set!

Our Winnebago Solis propped up on leveling blocks. We never leave home without these in the van!

Cabin Rentals

If you prefer a more private and comfortable camping experience, Camano Island State Park offers five cabins for rent. Each cabin has a kitchen, bathroom, and sleeping accommodations for up to five people.
